DOYLE AND TAYLOR PREPARE FOR SPA OUTING

Robertshaw Racing duo Michael Doyle (Gartocharn) and Alan Taylor (Whitley Bay) are preparing for a major event by taking part in a Clio Cup race at the legendary Spa-Francorchamps circuit on 16th/17th June. Although it takes place in Belgium, the race is part of the Italian Clio Cup.

Michael is currently eighth in the UK drivers’ standings and finished sixth at North Yorkshire’s Croft circuit in round four on Sunday, 3rd June. The Robertshaw Racing star is confident he can transfer his form to the Italian Championship.

Doyle said: “I’m looking forward to this more than anything. I’ve never raced outside the UK before so this is a big step for me because I’ll be against a different calibre of driver with different styles. It’s hard to set a target because I don’t know exactly what I’m up against. I’m a racer so I always want to win but two top-five finishes would be great.”

Taylor, who raced at Spa in the 2006 Mini Challenge and scored his first Clio Cup point of the season at Croft, added: “Racing a Clio round there is going to be fantastic. I don’t want to jinx it but I hope the race at Croft was a turning point for us. I know the circuit and the racing line but in terms of set-up the Clio is completely different. The lap times are around 14 seconds quicker in Clio compared to the Mini so it’s a fresh start for the team.”

Team Principal Gary Robertshaw, a former ELF Renault Clio Cup racer, commented: “We made some enquiries about racing in the Italian Championship and Renault Sport UK gave us the go-ahead. It’s a fantastic opportunity for the team. There is an Italian team called Rangoni, which has five drivers at the top of the points table so it would be nice to get amongst them and I believe we can do that.”
